It’s Elementary

Reading is dramatic

Rappahannock County Elementary School Library will sponsor a Scholastic Book Fair beginning on Thursday, Oct. 29, through Wednesday, Nov. 3. The Book Fair will be open from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., except for Thursday, Oct. 29, when it will remain open until 8 p. m. during Parent Teacher Conferences.

According to the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, when parents and teachers work together to introduce children to the world of books, the results can be dramatic. Reading to children and listening to children read improves language skills, such as vocabulary and syntax. Children who read more become more successful readers.. .and, in turn, successful readers read more books.

The Book Fair will display hundreds of titles, including awardwinning favorites, classics, how to books, mysteries, biographies, adventures, and the latest works of popular authors. All are offered at reasonable prices, so that students can choose books that appeal to their personal interests and parents can add to home libraries or purchase gifts for their young readers.

Proceeds from the Fair will benefit the Library, but the real profit lies in introducing children to the “magic” of the books and in encouraging them to be lifelong readers.
