Farmer
injured
in crash

A tractor-trailer truck smashed into a farm tractor on U.S. 211 Friday afternoon. The violent crash severely injured Samuel Brian Finney who was driving the John Deere tractor.
The accident closed one lane of the West bound traffic for hours following the 2:15 p.m. collision. Finney, 31, of Rixeyville, was taken to Fauquier Hospital and airlifted from there to Fairfax Hospital. He was in the Intensive Care Unit Monday afternoon, and his condition had been upgraded to serious, according to a hospital representative.
Finney was driving a 1986 John Deere tractor (model 2640A) westbound on the four-lane highway, towing a large, round hay baler. The baler and tractor were struck from behind by a 1983 International truck towing an empty flatbed trailer. Both vehicles were in the right-hand lane. The accident occurred about one half mile east of Route 640.
The International truck was driven by Fred Luther Dillon Sr., 52, of Middletown. The vehicle is owned by Duncan Trans.Co. of Riverton, near Front Royal.
The farm tractor was hurled onto the shoulder where it landed upside down.
