Washington’s Colonial Christmas Weekend, Dec. 5 and 6, is an opporJiinity for Town residents and businesses to get into the spirit of the holiday season and be rewarded with a cash prize at the same time.
For the second year, under the sponsorship of the Town Council and the Washington Business Council, the homes and businesses decorated for the weekend will be recognized at a special awards ceremony at the Towm Hall, at the corner of Gay and Calvert Streets. A cash prize of $100 for first place and $50 for runner-up will be awarded in each category.
The judges are last year’s winners, Ray Gooch and Mary and Ruby Jenkins for the residential category, and Peter Kramer for the business category. Entrants are urged to use natural greens for their decorations and all entries will be viewed both during the day and after dark.
Residents can enter the contest by calling Nan Thomasson at 6753738 before 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, so your house won’t be missed by the judges. Prizes will be awarded at 4 p.m., Sunday. Dec. 6, just before a performance by the Rappahannock Colonial Dancers at the Town Hall. The performance is free to the public.
