Twinkling lights, visits with Santa, music, carolling and horse-drawn carriages: all these come together in Old Town Warrenton, beginning Dec. 4, to recall the memories of Christmas past, and create the magic of Christmas today.
For the first three weekends in December, a myriad of special activities has been planned to delight both children and adults.
The season kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 in front of the old Courthouse in Warrenton.
Santa Claus himself will arrive by horse-drawn carriage, and will be escorted down the street to his Warrenton headquarters — the Christmas Shop for Children. Santa will visit with children, and pictures will be available, until 9 p.m.
Santa will be in his headquarters each Friday in December from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Christmas Shop for Children will also open for the season at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4. A shop set up just for children, it will be chock full of inexpensive gifts that children can purchase for mother, father, siblings and friends.
All items are selected carefully to appeal to youngsters, and stay within their limited budgets. The shop is staffed with volunteers ready and willing to take young shoppers in hand and help them with their lists.
Each gift is wrapped and labeled before the child leaves — so the surprises stay surprises ’til Christmas morning.
The Christmas Shop for Children is open each Friday in December from 7 p.m.
