Dec. 11. They will sing a variety of Christmas music in shops and on the sidewalks throughout Old Town.
A tradition for many Warrenton residents is the annual concert, “Christmas in Music.”
The Warrenton Chorale, the Youth Chorale and the Handbell Choir, under the direction of Barbara Stinson, Steve Aiello and Joan Staiko, will present an evening of music of the season at 8 p.m. on Dec. 10, 11 and 12 at Warrenton United Methodist Church.
The evening begins with the traditional candlelight procession and Gregorian chant. The program includes choruses from Handel’s Messiah, familiar Christmas songs and carols from other lands, accompanied by handbells, trumpets, recorders, percussion and dulcimer. The audience will join the choirs and handbells in three familiar carols.
Tickets are available at the Fauquier National Bank, People’s National Bank, New Leaf Bookstore and the Stitching Post. This event is always a sell-out — so get your tickets early.
The Piedmont Pops, a community band directed by Herb Edwards, will give two special Christmas performances this year.
At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, the band will perform at the John Barton Payne Building in Old Town. At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20 the Pops will perform at Taylor Junior High School. At that performance, there will be visits from Santa as well.
There are many of us who may not be as talented as members of the Warrenton Chorale or the Piedmont Pops, but who still enjoy lifting up our voices in song — especially at Christmas.
On Friday evening, Dec. 18, there will be a Community Carol Sing in Old Town. Area church choir members will form a core group which will lead singers in the music of the season. All are welcome to join in.
The theater comes alive in Warrenton during December as w ell. Fauquier Community Theater presents “The Lift lest Elf" at 8 p.m. on Dec. 4, 5 11 and i 12 (and Mb 2 bit Dec. <> and 13 at The ■ Loft, 9 N. Third Street, Warrenton.
