Rankin’s Furniture, located in the Waterloo Station Shopping Center in Warrenton, is the sixth store opened by local retailer James A. Rankin Sr.
Mr. Rankin opened his first store in Warrenton — Rankin’s True Value Hardware, Inc. — in the old Northern Virginia Shopping Center (now the Warrenton Center) 28 years ago.
Over the years, the store grew, moving into the large “anchor” building that once housed a chain grocery store.
Wishing to expand into other markets, Rankin later opened a second True Value Hardware store in Winchester.
About 10 years ago, Rankin separated his growing sporting goods from the hardware line, opening Rankin’s Sporting Goods a few doors down from his hardware store.
This year, he opened a sporting goods store in Winchester (business number four), and a third hardware store in Colonial Beach (number five).
