The board received a copy of pro-J posed new by-laws prepared by thej by-law committee. They will con-; sider these by-laws at their January meeting, since they also voted not to! meet in December.
The board had hoped to settle the * issue of the flagpole, but ran intol complications. The flagpole is to be; paid for from funds donated in the* memory of Isaac Parrish. Some of! the memorial gifts came into the li-J brary and some to the Friends. The* flagpole and flag have been ordered. * Broadway electric estimated $775 toi run a line and install a light so thej flag could be lighted at night. Thej funds under control of the library forthis porpose won’t cover the full cost! of installing the pole and light. !
Mrs. Lynch reported that as a re-; suit attending the Virginia Libeary* Association conference, she and high* school librarian Beth Scott had ap-! plied for a grant to join Internet.! She said the state is strongly encour-J aging libraries to join, but university* libraries and large libraries will be* involved first. Their grant applica-j tion claims that citizens in rural J areas particularly need such re-J sources since large collections are* not available. Most of the reference* works at the public library and high! school library are more than 12 J years old. «
