state’s 1-A division. At the state meet in Charlottesville earlier this month, Strasburg won the state title, Central was third and Stonewall was fourth.
Coach Tim Corder said he is losing only two seniors from this year’s squad: Chris Payne and Randy Earley. Besides Payne and Earley, the team has been ably supported by mark Jenkins and Mike Wolfe, both freshmen; by Shane Lambert, a sophomore and by foreign exchange students Juergin Venema and Pepe Leal.
Another bright spot on the cross country scene has been Sari Pellinen, the first woman harrier Corder has coached. Running alone against entire teams of women all season, Pellinen managed nine firsts in her ten meets.
