ASCS suggests
long term pacts
The ASCS urges farmers to sign up before Nov. 27 for a long term agreement for conservation practices. Requests must be made in the ASCS office by Nov. 27 and before a practice is started.
Practices offered are: establishing or improving permanent vegetative cover, strip cropping systems, diversions, grazing land protection, cropland protective cover, critical area cover, livestock watering facilities, sod waterways, planting forest trees, and animal waste facilities.
Long term agreements (three to five years) are binding contracts based on plans developed by the Soil Conservation Service and approved by the County ASC committee.
If your farm is in need of more than one conservation practice, consider this option. Cost shares are paid at 75 percent on approved practices.
For more information on this or other conservation programs, come by the local ASCS office on the corner of Gay and Jett streets in Washington or call 675-3616.
