One bill before the General Assembly might enable the people in the county to telephone each other without a toll charge, County Administrator John McCarthy told the members of the Board of Supervisors Monday.
Mr. McCarthy explained that if people on one exchange want to call people on another now without paving a toll, subscribers in both systems have to vote to approve the change, which usually means a higher monthly rate.
Under a bill introduced by Sen. R. J. Holland of Isle of Wight, the referendum would not be required if the increase does not exceed five percent or is due solely to rate regrouping. He said the senate bill had been passed out of the Local Government Committee.
