tion might be very unpopular at home and paint them as hostile to parents’ rights, and children’s best interests, perhaps jeopardizing their seats.
Thus, they have introduced this counterfeit, “anybody but the parent bill with the deceptive title. They know full well that this bill will not require parental notification, but that they can vote for it and tell the voters that they supported “parental notification.”
The irony is that most of these opponents of parental notification voted in the Assembly to ban underage consumption of tobacco products and alcohol, and the purchase of firearms - yet they think that these same underage girls ought to be considered adult “consumers” of abortion.
And what of the good, decent parents of Virginia? This counterfeit bill is a slap in the face to them.
A parent either fathers or gives birth to a daughter, cares for her, pays the bills and raises her - yet these opponents of parental notification feel that the State should deny a parent’s right and terminate parental custody and input during a young daughter’s abortion decision.
One parent complained to me: “Those delegates think we’re good as breeders and bill payers, but for nothing else.”
With bills like this obstruction of a parent’s solicitude for his or her own daughter’s well-being, I can understand why such a charge would be made.
I urge the three quarters of Virginia citizens who support genuine notification contact their delegates immediately on this bill.
