1941, his feet were on a destroyer
moored at Pearl Harbor. That wa^ certainly the most exciting day of his naval career. Mr. Pond will deliver an illustrated talk telling just how he and his shipmates and comrades all planted their feet and fought back -
except for one or two who didn’t quite get the message. Comedy shows up in strange places.
There were other interesting days, of course, mostly because the Navy and Mr. Pond were not what you might call totally compatible. He was the square peg. The round hole was the destroyer he served on. In the Navy, a destroyer is called a “tin can.”
The man served only one hitch, but he certainly timed it right. All who come to the library will get a new look at the attack on Pearl Harbor, from “within the smoke.” There will be refreshments right after the talk.
