Representatives of three of the four candidates for the U.S. Senate came to Washington for the Fourth of July celebration to speak on behalf of their candidates.
In general the crowd gathered on the Courthouse lawn did not act very interested in hearing political speeches, but Lucinda Robb speaking on behalf of her father incumbent Democratic Sen. Charles Robb seemed to get the best response.
Miss Robb said she could not speak for her father, but she could tell about him. She said she sees him when he’s tired “and off guard.”
She said he had taught them to always “do the right thing. Give everyone a fair chance; expect the best from them and do the best yourself. When there is no applause, you can’t quit.”
