For one thing, it would probably be the single best investment this county could make for our tourism industry. Bike paths would also promote a gentle lifestyle, give our youngsters something to do independent of their chauffeuring parents, and wean us a bit from our dangerous and polluting cars.
We could start small. For instance, a bike path between the Washington Post Office and the library would be a great thing. Signs put up by the Highway Department on designated bike routes cautioning drivers about cyclists would also be another useful and modest step.
Our long-term goal might be bike paths along scenic byways like the. Fodderstack and Route 231, as well as a link between Washington and Sperryville.
Let’s see if we can get a group together to look into realizing some of these ideas. In the meantime, please be aware that a cyclist could be around the next comer.
