rhe selection committee felt that Betty Roberts best typified this spirit. Through her leadership, the Piedmont United Way has grown in responsibility and fund raising capability, and is definitely making a difference in this community. Betty was singled out for her management skills and her treatment of both volunteer workers and board members.
Betty suggests that the award was not for her alone, but for the whole community. Because of the Piedmont United Way, she says, people now have homes, and food on their tables; children have after school day care; a four-year old is learning social skills; teachers benefit because they don’t have to start from scratch to teach a first garder; a senior citizen is not sitting alone, but can eryoy a hot meal. “All this is possible,” she concludes, “because people are giving from the heart.”
