Susan McCarthy of Washington joined the Piedmont United Way Board of Directors. Mrs. McCarthy is the first board member from Rappahannock County.
At the new board’s first meeting allocations were made from funds raised in last fall’s campaign. For the first time the Child Care and Learning Center and the Shenandoah Area Boy Scout Council, which serves Boy Scouts in Rappahannock County, were added to the list of agencies receiving Piedmont United Way funds.

The Board of Zoning Appeals granted a variance for a garage for Roy Jenkins last month.
Mr. Jenkins plans to build a 24 x 24 foot garage in his back yard in Sperryville. He resides on U.S. 211.
Mr. Jenkins claimed that he wants to build the garage 13 feet away from the adjoining property, which belongs to Mr. Scott McBride. Mr. McBride does not oppose this. The normal setback is 20 feet.
