Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual carnival July 7, 8 and 9. Activities planned include a Womanless Beauty Contest on Thursday; 8 and 10 p.m. performance by Pure Country on Friday and 8 and 10 p.m. performance by Mystic Sound on Saturday, as well as crowning of Honorary Fire Chief and drawing of prizes. The community is urged to support the event.
Tennis Clinics Scheduled
The Rappahannock County Park is sponsoring adult and junior tennis lessons starting with a six-week session. The junior clinics will be held Mondays and Fridays, July 11,15, 18,29, Aug. 1 and 5. Clinics for beginners, intermediates and advanced will be from 8-11 a.m. The cost will be $6 per lesson with four juniors required to be in each group.
The adult clinics will be held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings for beginners, intermediates and advanced players. Saturday clinics will be held July 9 and 30 and Aug. 20 and 27 and begin at 5:30. The cost will be $8 per hour with four players per group. I
“We would like to start a weekly junior tennis night at the park. Adult volunteers would be need,” said organizer Jean Lillard.

Art Classes Planned

! Flint Hill Carnival
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual carnival Aug. 10-13. The parade will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11. The crowning of the queen and prizes will be awarded on Saturday night with the grand prize being a Chevrolet Geo Metro.
1 Biathlon Scheduled
The American Cancer Society is sponsoring the fourth annual Mountain Run Lake-Biathlon in Culpeper at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14.
The event takes place on the gently rolling paved roads surrounding the park. The race is a biathlon consisting of a 4.1 mile run, 18.2 mile bike and ending with a 1 mile run. This year the race can be entered individually, or as a member of a team that consists of one runner and one biker.
