Col. M. Wayne Huggins, Superintendent of the Virginia State Police announced that beginning Aug. 1 state troopers will no longer routinely investigate motor vehicles crashes that result in less than $1,000 in property damage unless the crashes involve personal injury, death or hit-and-run.
He emphasized that troopers will not be prohibited from investigating any crash if, in their judgment, they feel circumstances warrant it. He also said that troopers may issue summonses or make arrests, such as driving without a license, without investigating a crash.
