Horizons Theatre at the Gunston Arts Center in Arlington will present Chris White’s play Rhythms Saturday July 11. The play will run through July 30th.
Ms. White, who lives in the Castleton area, presented the play as a workshop performance at Ki Theatre in 1992. She directed it herself and used several Rappahannock residents as actresses.
Rhythms takes place in Rappahannock County in late summer. It is set in the present time. Through extensive use of monologues, as well as dialogue, spotlights, simple (mostly folk) songs, a few props and some movement, the play takes us into the hearts and minds of seven women, ranging in age from 16 to 75, and the rhythms that play through their lives. Birthing, music, sex, food, the absent or lost male, nature, and dying are woven together to cre| ate a percussive, rhythmic “song of women,” ending in a dance that
