In later years he taught r rench and the Senior Literature course, World Literature. He is remembered by his students for the personal details he could bring to his classes having done some early French translations for T.S. Eliot.
Dr. Cognon was a gifted amateur painter of family portraits as well as a gifted pianist who decided to forgo the concert circuit.
He was a translator from 1938 to 1941 for the Headquarters of the French Forces and served in the French military service during World War II. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, i Surviving are one brother, Jean Cognon of Tahiti and one nephew, Michel Cognon of Freneuse, France. One brother, Jacques, died in 1981.
