decided to take on the responsibility of being director of the Harrisonburg campus of the National Business College. “I had had enough of coaching and I wanted to get administrative experience,” he said.
He did a little of everything, from tightening legs on desks, to counseling students to hiring and evaluating faculty. The center of the National Business College is in Roanoke. Harrisonburg is the site of one of eight branches in Virginia. There are another eight branches in Kentucky and Tennessee. There are about 100 students at the Harrisonburg campus when day and night students are combined.
When Mr. Raines learned of the opening for an assistant principal in Rappahannock, he visited. Just walking in the halls was “like a flashback,” he said. “It’s smaller, rural, in a fantastic location. It was like going back to Montevideo. ” 1 As assistant principal, Mr.// Raines will also be the school’s athletic director. The school administration has had problems finding coaches for high school sports. With his sports background, the administration hopes he can help with that.
“We’re going to try to find the best available coaches we can that work well with kids,” he said. He added that he hopes to get more students participating in sports. “The more people we can get involved, the better,” he added.
