Several people spoke at public hearings in favor of keeping the dropout coordinator, and the Board of' Supervisors amended the school budget so the position could continue to be funded.
In the new budget county funds were to pick up a higher portion of the cost of the teacher handling inschool suspension, which is still partly grant funded. The drop-out coordinator’s position was never discussed during deliberations on next year’s budget
At Tuesday night’s School Board meeting Dr. Gangel proposed that the teacher handling in-school suspension develop a program of alternative education and a teachers’ aide take over in-school suspension duties. He also proposed that an aide take over inschool suspension/alternative education at the elementary school for a saving of $12,000.
He said guidance counselors at the high school could take on more of the work of the drop-out coordinator.
