To the Editor.
We are writing to thank, everyone who helped make our recent mission trip to Honduras a success. We traveled for a week in April with the Honduran-American Medical Mission, sponsored by the Catholic Church, to villages in northwest Honduras.
There were two pediatricians, an obstetrician/gynecologist, a pharmacist, two general medical doctors, two dentists and two nurses, as well as 15 high school and college students who assisted the medical team and 10 Honduran young people who assisted the team and helped with translating.
The areas we visited were quite remote, had no electricity or running water, and had no doctors or nurses in the villages. We set up separate medical clinics for women, men, and children, clinics for dental services, stations for used eyeglass distribution, and set up an on-site pharmacy. We served five different communities in this manner, screening hundreds of people a day who had walked for hours in the hot sun to be seen, diagnosing and treating simple ailments to complicated medical problems.
The community we were headquartered in, Urraco Pueblo, has worked hard together over many years to have water and electricity, and through the work of the Honduran-American MedicalMission, has now constructed a modem medical clinic. It is staffed full
