of the afternoon to organize them for display, both in the hall and under the big Lions tent, so that when the auction opens officially at 6 p.m., Lion Bill Payne, our expert auctioneer, will know what he needs to know about everything for sale.
What help do we need from you? Please look through your houses, gardens, bams, yards and attics and find some of those good things that you meant to give the Lions last year and bring them to the big tent on Friday or Saturday. A Lion will thank you and give you a signed receipt guaranteed to be good at any local IRS office.
Roger Andrews, auction chairman, has organized a new neighborhood network to make it easier for the donors to contact the auction staff. If you can’t get your donations to the big tent yourself, give one of these local Lions a call to arrange for a pick-up. The Lion coordinators in your areas are Boston — Ken Marlor, (w) 547-3474 (h) 547-3974; Castleton — Harry Purdy, 937-5157; Chester Gap — Art Town, 635-7547; Flint Hill/Huntly — Alan Brown, 364-3974 or Joe Hall, 675-3103; Sperryville — Carson Johnson, 987-8720; Washington — Roger Andrews, 9878974 or Hal McDermott, 675-1028 and Woodville — Joel Daczewitz, 987-8395 or H.B. Wood, 987-8886. Give one of us a call.
The Lions Club mission is community service. All proceeds from the auction are applied to local programs directed to benefit those who have the greatest need. The Lions will welcome gift certificates, antique furniture, working tools, collectible glassware, silver and gold jewelry or other merchandise that can be donated for sale.
Remember, it’s this Saturday, May 13 at the Washington fire hall starting at 6 p.m. and going on until everything is sold. You won’t want to miss this exciting auction. Advance reports indicate that some very good items have already been donated. So come early and have a picnic with us. We sell food too.
