Women’s Care. When the current maternity unit was built in 1951, the tradition was to move women to different rooms as the birth process progressed from labor through delivery to what was a longer post-partum stay. “Now a new mother is usually here for only 24-48 hours, and has the option of keeping her baby in her room as much as she likes,” Morrison explained. “We wanted to provide a homey room to accommodate the activity, rest and teaching that goes on while she and the baby are with us.”
