On Saturday, April 26, the Nineteenth Annual Fodderstack 10-K Race will be run from Flint Hill to Washington. That’s “run” in the sense of “so as to operate”, since many of the “runners” travel at a speed that only a glacier could envy. Which of course (no pun intended) is part of the event’s appeal.
While there are any number of participants who legitimately compete for the $300 cash prize offered to the runner who bests the course record of 31.26 for men or 36:46 for women, the emphasis is on having a good time. OK, maybe the first, second and third place trophies crafted by local artisan Meryl Strange for males and females in each of ten categories also acts as something of an incentive...and perhaps the Eva Smith Memorial trophies to the first finishing Rappahannock County resident (male and female) also adds some fleetness of foot. Really though, the bottom line is getting out and enjoying the first blush of Spring.
