ness of this area. As they years went by, we learned to use, and were enriched by, the surprising number of physical, educational, cultural, and human resources which were available here.
This past winter, both of us suffered serious illnesses which temporarily severely limited our ability to pursue the lifestyle that we had come to love. We despaired of ever catching up with the spring work around our homestead that we has enjoyed so much in the past. Suddenly we were told that a group of people would appear on the following weekend for a “work party”....to do whatever needed to be done. Well, they cleaned house, ironed clothes, put up awnings, pruned the grape arbor, dug up and turned over many garden beds, and even provided food for the occasion!
So thank you Page Smith, Mike Garcia, Dan Lewis, Lois Manookian, Bob Treanor, and Butch Zindel....from the bottom of our hearts. And more thanks to various Rappahannockers (like Sally Nash, the Dietels, the Youngs, Lyt Wood, the Abells, the Birds, and the Fraziers) who brought over casseroles, read to us, and did so many other caring and helpful things.
