There’s plenty of sand, abrasives and ice-melting chemicals on hand at eachdistrict office. The plows and other snow-fighting equipment are inspected and ready to go whenever the need arises as are the VDOT and contractor personnel.
Snow preparedness inspections are complete at all of the district’s area headquarters. During these events, all equipment is inspected by mechanics with emphasis on parts and areas that may fail cuing the height of a storm. Parts are replaced and the necessary repairs made to ensure equipment reliability.
Priorities for clearing roads have not changed this year. In Rappahannock the lower volume primaries such, U.S. 211 and 522 are top priority, then high-volume secondary roads such as Route 729 and Route 231.
