The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, which held their program at the same time, had 76 children and 100 officers participating for that county which made for a store full.
After shopping everybody was transported to the Warrenton fire hall where the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department and the Fauquier Sheriff’s Office provided them with breakfast.
“One of the amazing things I witnessed there that day is the behaviour of the children. They thanked everyone — police officers, K-Mart personnel, volunteers — they were so appreciative of everything and so polite and well behaved,” said Maj. Rick Mac Welch.
“The other thing I saw that the sheriff noted, and I noted and the wrappers noted was what the children bought. They spent the majority of their money on clothes. What little they had left went for a toy,” he
