Help needed
Town Council looking for volunteers
to help with survey and center plans
The Washington Town Council is hoping to enlist
the aide of volunteers in surveying the town’s
parking spaces. Repeated attempts have been made to do this but have not produced an accurate count.
The Town Parking Committee is calling it “the parking study to end all parking studies,” and it should prove useful to all county residents.
The committee needs to identify the number of spaces available, evaluate the current use of those spaces and determine if they are being used properly.
The council also allocated $4,000 in their current budget to “explore a new visitors’ center.” It was hoped that there would be a town/county cooperative effort. The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors is considering the idea. In the meantime, council member Ray Gooch urged the council to do something in this fiscal year. It has been suggested a pilot program should be initiated and involve the town business community.
Ideas about how to implement the pilot program were discussed (See page A1 story.)
A visitor’s center would certainly be of great benefit to the town and county considering the many sights of historical interest as well as other unique places to visit here.
