The movies are held the third Friday of each month at 8 p.m. For January through April the following films are offered:
On Jan. 16, 1998, “Seven Years in Tibet,” PG 13, 131 minutes, it is a film of the Himalayas, the Dalai Lama, photographic beauty, adventure and the spirituality of Bhuddism.
“Washington Square,” PG, 115 minutes, will run on Feb. 20. It is a superb rendition of the Henry James masterpiece set in the 1880s, and a contender for the 1997 Oscar with Albert Finney, Ben Chaplin and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
A Japanese comedy of a midlife crisis with a white collar worker who escapes his hum drum, emotionally restrained life for a secret nonconventional freedom through ballroom dancing, “Shall We Dance,” PG, 117 minutes, is a celebration of the human spirit. It will be shown on March 20.
On April 17 the film “Mrs. Brown, PG, 103 minutes, will be shown. It tells of Queen Victoria of England who, depressed after the death of her husband Prince Albert, finds both affection and loyalty in her husband’s gruff manservant John Brown, which scandalizes the public and earns her the nickname, “Mrs. Brown.” The truth of the depth of their relationship is still a historical mystery.
