BODYANDSOUL Those of us who believe our souls to be immortal have little reason to fear the days when our bodies prove to be all too mortal. We may well believe that, just as the caterpillar sheds its earthbound body in order that it may metamorphose into a winged butterfly, we all shall eventually leave our earthly skins behind so that we may assume our positions in a loftier realm. Some may, indeed, find this prospect to be liberating. Others, like Mohandas Karamchand (Mahatma) Gandhi, may simply accept it as a fact of life and death. He said, "How can I, who knows the body to be perishable and the soul to be imperishable, mourn over the separation of body from soul?" Many find comfort in their faith.
