Last week, the board also approved a $142,000 funding request from the county school board to cover renovations at the high school. “The state funding formula changes,” he observed. “For a number of years it was disfavorable, last year it was more favorable.” With median income levels and real estate values in other parts of the state* outdistancing the county’s, the state composite index should continue to benefit Rappahannock. The county also receives substantial federal funding in the form of salaries, wages, retirement and disability payments, procurement contracts, guaranteed loans, insurance, and grants. In 1996, the amount totalled almost $40 million.
