Fencing filters
If you have more space and a need for filtered privacy, you may wish to use lattices, trellises, and arches to set the framework of a screen, again covered with vines. Properly selected plantings of trees and shrubs can he as effective as a fence and can change with the season.
Deciduous trees and shrubs provide a buffer in summer when in leaf, but are open in winter. This may be ideal if your major consideration is blocking noise from neighborhood outdoor summer activities. Trees with many branches and leaves work better as screening plants than those with sparse foliage. Species such as birch, oak, and beech, produce rustling sounds that will mask noise. Evergreens block noise, sights, and strong winds all year.
