At least one of the three robin teams has brought off a fledging. I hear his repeated calls for food and worry that he is on the ground and one of the cats that roam through Flint Hill will also hear the call and make a killing.

Grackles continue to be a problem at the feeder where they crowd in with their clacking selves and consume all the seed in a short time. If we don’t chase them away by yelling and pecking on the window, the number grows until it makes me think of a neighborhood gathering when everyone has a story to tell.

Now there are young grackles out of the nest. They are persistent with their calls for food. One landed on the feeder and, when I pecked on the window, looked perplexed, as if not knowing what to do. His parents flew away; he stayed until I went out to chase him from the feeder.
