Carlton Atkins
Life long church member
Carlton E. Atkins, 95, of Sperryville died on Saturday, June 6 at Warrenton Overlook Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was bom on June 16, 1902 to George W. and Anita Beahm Atkins.
Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Nessel C. Atkins as well as brothers Frank Atkins of Akron, Ohio, Gayland Atkins and Malcolm Atkins of Luray, and his sisters Estelle Leake and Edna Oliver, both of Luray and Ethel Clater of Sperryville.
Survivors include four sisters Mae A. Long, Virginia A. Campbell and Marie A. Bruce of Luray and Catherine A. Brown of Sperryville, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Atkins retired from the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation. He was a life-long member of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville, where he was an active deacon, choir member and usher.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 9 at Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville with the Rev. Jon Heddleston officiating.
Interment followed in Sperryville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Griffin, Eddie Wayland, Nevin Bull, Dickie Wayland, Bobby Foster and Donald Gore.
