Beef steak is an American favorite, accounting for more than 18 percent of the beef eaten at home, according to research firm NPD/Crest and the Virginia Cattle Industry Board. Furthermore, research from the firm shows that consumers enjoy it in restaurants more than 348 million times each year. This popularity is one of the reasons beef producers in Rappahannock County are promoting June as National BeefStenk Month.
The summer grilling season lends itself to steak promotion. “Outdoor dining is popular and there’s no better way to prepare a steak than on the grill,” according to Cynthia Boggs, Director of Education and Beef Promotion of the Virginia Cattle Industry Board. “Summer is the perfect time to promote the great taste of steak ”
The June is “National Beef Steak Month” promotion is funded by beef producers through the $1 per head beef checkoff program. It encourages food editors from across the United States to spread the word about steak’s convenience, versatility and its great taste.
