What could be better than spending a day exploring and learning about Shenandoah National Park? Beginning on Saturday, June 27, Shenandoah National Park will continue its field study seminar series with a day-long program on the flood of 1995.
Three years ago this June, the park and surrounding communities experienced a once-in-a-lifetime flood event. Join park rangers and geologists from the U.S. Geological Survey and explore some of the places in Madison County and Shenandoah National Park that were most dramatically affected by the flood of 1995. Learn about the geology of the area, and how it can help predict where future flood events may occur. See for yourself how these areas were affected by the flood waters, and how these areas continue to recover.
