Starks plans to continue cross country to keep up his stamina and hopes to be able to go to George Mason to work at the indoor track since he’ll have a car — he lives with his foster mother Lilia Pendleton.
This year he won 11 medals in track. Next year his goal is 20. He’s hoping for a scholarship to JMU, George Mason or perhaps Virginia Tech.
“He’s very ‘coachable’,” Roszak said, “an over achiever. He has matured quite a bit and is a fine young man and a fine representative of Rappahannock High School and the county itself. He’s a leader and was the track team co-captain this year. I expect him to go forward — he has not reached his potential yet,”
Starks received the award for Most Valuable Athlete for track this year and the U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.
