any unfavorable comment or stigmatizing treatment. We applaud the requirement that the nonparticipating student must refrain from any activity that disrupts those making the pledge and especially appreciate and encourage that all students can be required to learn the Pledge of Allegiance.

America needs, as she has always needed, knowledgeable citizens aware of the sacrifices required in the past, the present and the future to preserve freedom. She needs enlightened citizens, familiar with the great treatises and documents that define and guarantee our American way of life. She needs patriotic citizens who respond to the sacrifices and guarantees with faith, love and dedication.

The reciting and teaching of the Pledge of Allegiance in Virginia schools are positive steps toward supplying such knowledgeable, enlightened, patriotic citizens for the future of America.

The Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution will support the Board of Education’s guidelines on Recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. We urge its adoption as presented.
