Robert, who died eight years ago, had been close friends of Dr. William Lynn and his wife, Clydetta. Photographs of the Lynn family are intermingled with ones of her family around her living room. King was a member of the Wakefield School board of trustees for about six years until she resigned when the school broke apart in 1991.
She said she remained at home while raising her two daughters and returned to work after they were grown. For about 15 years she worked as an assistant to the treasurer of a bank computer center.
“She is not a person to tell you all she does,” said Alice Butler, who seconded King’s nomination for council. However, people who know King quickly mention how much she does for others.
King, a devout Catholic, is the bookkeeper for St. Peters Catholic Church and a member of the adult literacy group. Besides shouldering those responsibilities, she faithfully chautfeurs others who cannot drive and helps those in need on a daily basis.
Her commitments to her church, community and neighbors were the reason she said she withdrew from running for town treasurer last May. However, she felt she could be a member of the council and still continue with her other activities.
