Thanksgiving is here and so it begins another holiday season! It’s the time of year when cooks go “all out” making meals that are elegant and special.

As space permits throughout the next few weeks we will use family favorites. Should you have a recipe to share please feel free to submit it to the Rappahannock News.

Following are some recipes that have been used in families for years and are sure to please your holiday guests.

Pumpkin-Lemon

Cream Pie

Bake a pumpkin pie from your favorite recipe or you can dress up a bakery or frozen pie by topping it with the sour cream mixture:

Sour Cream Layer:

1 cup sour cream

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Grated peel of one lemon

1/4 cup chopped pecans

Bake pumpkin pie and allow to cool for 20 minutes. Blend together sour cream, brown sugar, lemon juice and lemon peel. Spread sour cream mixture evenly over the pie. Bake 10 minutes more. Sprinkle top with chopped nuts. Serve warm or cold.

One fourth cup nuts provides enough nuts for a circle of nuts approximately one inch from edge of crust. Purchase more nuts if you want to cover the entire pie with chopped nuts. Enjoy!
