Fascination with the Civil War is as enduring as the Christmas spirit itself. And for the Civil War enthusiast on your list — or eyen for someone who just dabbles in the war — there are several great shopping opportunities close by.
Civil War books are a perfect place to start. Someone once calculated that there has been a book written about the war for every day since it ended.
Warrenton’s New Leaf Bookstore and BJ’s Books, (selling used books), and the Book Chase in Middleburg are good places to start.
Jason Duberman, owner of Clio’s History Bookshop in Leesburg specializes in historical reading material.
“The Civil War appeals to different people for different reasons,” said Duberman. “More Americans were killed in the Civil War than any other war, and it’s so intrinsically our war.”
Not to mention the fact that this area is the heart of “Mosby’s Confederacy,” named for the fierce partisan ranger who preyed on federal picket posts and supply lines. Several battles were fought here, and huge armies marched and camped throughout the countryside.
