“This is a very unique community as far as people diving in and doing what needs to be done as far as donating and helping others is concerned,” she said.
Fauquier residents looking to donate their time without a significant financial commitment should consider becoming a “Friendly Visitor” to a senior citizen or disabled adult who may need a little assistance doing Christmas shopping or attending a holiday event. Again, DSS can provide information about citizens needing such help this season.
An annual service program needing plenty of helping hands is the Salvation Army Kettle Drive. The first three Saturdays in December organizers will need volunteers to man kettles in two-hour shifts at four locations in Warrenton.
“We need as many volunteers as we can get,” says Eloise Trainum, who chairs the Fauquier unit of the Salvation Army. “After about two hours straight, we get tired.”
