Phase One of the committee’s plan is to apply for state TEA-21 funds to receive money to rebuild the footbridge, improve Main Street with underground drainage, add signs for the historic village and research the transportation history of Sperryville. Also, the money will help with advice for parking in the village, a design for footpaths and a plan for a bike trail.
Catron said $18 million is available statewide, but if grant proposals are not submitted by the Jan. 31, 1999 deadline, it will be another year before grant applications will be accepted. This money may not even be available again, Catron said, so the grant proposals need to be written immediately.
The next important step was for the public to attend the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors meetings in December and January, said Catron.
Without their approval, grant proposals cannot be submitted.
