The nineteenth century preacher Charles Spurgeon told the story of the poor mother whuse children were freezing. Desperate, she took the cellar door off the hinges and propped it in the corner where her sleeping children huddled, hoping to shield some of them from the cold. Remarkably, one of the children said to her. "Mother, what do those dear little children do who have no cellar door to pot up in front of them?"
While imprisoned for his religious beliefs. Paul said in a letter to the Philippines, "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances...! can do everything through Him who gives me strength." t Phil. 4:11-13)
Such sincere gratitude to come from a freezing child and an innocent man in prison. Though we do aol understand the plans (>od has for our soul, we must be thankful. As we worship this Thanksgiving, may we give thanks like that of the child who etci in desperation was sure that she was the fortunate one.
