Rehearsals are underway for this year’s performance of “The Shepherds’ Play.” Two performances are scheduled: Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. at Ki Theatre in Washington, Va.
“The Shepherds’ Play” is a traditional 14th century nativity pageant, with acting, singing and instrumental music. It was originally created by the villagers of the island of Oberfeur between the banks of the Danube. The play was performed each year by German farmers and townsfolk after the fall harvest. Following this ancient tradition, local talents of actors, singers and instrumentalists are preparing for the 6th year of performance. It is a play rich in community spirit.
“The Shepherds’ Play” is directed and produced by Jean Elizabeth with music direction by Beth Levick. Lainie Morgan is the stage manager.
