Superintendent Dr. David Gangel and Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann Biggs described the complexity of the tests. Dr. Gangel noted that the SOL’s were unlike most criteria reference exams- he said that these new standardized tests “require thought. . . higher order thinking . . . and are a real challenge.”
To meet the accreditation requirement Rappahannock schools have begun assessment programs and instructional and curriculum modifications that are and will continue to impact upon the schools’ budget, Dr. Gangel warned, but he assured the Board that Rappahannock schools would achieve success in meeting state requirements.
