As a result of the changes, the Building Office is now requiring an agreement from prospective home builders that they will comply with the law in place of a plan. Compliance will be assured during inspection.
• McCarthy informed the baord of a revenue sharing plan before the General Assembly. The assembly seems to favor the idea of revenue sharing with localities. The plan is called five-for-five: The state would give back five percent of income tax to localities, and the localities would reduce real property taxes by five percent.
The actual numbers would be based on 1996 figures. As a result, Rappahannock County would stand to net a gain of $108,911 in revenue.
• The board was presented with a letter from David G. Brickley concerning the establishment of a military history museum in Virginia. McCarthy commented that any military artifacts are welcome. Brickley is also looking for a suitable location for such a museum.
• The July board meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, July 7.
