hiVen wnen we realized that the Smoke House was incredibly understaffed, we had folks volunteer to stay inside for hours without a break, so that no child would miss the opportunity to go inside. It is a joy to live in a county with so many kind arid selfless people, and we thank all of you who volunteered!•
Miss Carol Nowakoski, RCES P.E. teacher, coordinated a Field Trip on Thursday, June 3 for all the sixth and seventh grade students who passed all four of their; Physical Fitness Tests. During; their outing the students hiked the White Oak CanyOn Trail in Madison. Fifty-one students qualified for the hike. Way to go!
• Mrs. Cynthia Simpson’s fourth grade class hosted ani Ice Cream Social for their Reading Buddies on Wednesday, June 2. The older students, and younger ones, benefit from this shared reading experience.
• The Book Buddies Program has been an incredible success this year. Mrs. Terri Genther and Mrs, Geraldine Payne were the facilitators for this wonderful program that paired RCHS National Honor Society students as Reading Tutors with first graders. The students have met for 20 weeks with very positive results. Thanks to this program, which was funded through a grant from Wheat First Union Bank and assistance from Headwaters, the first graders advanced through two complete reading levels. Outstanding!
• The Academic Awards Banquet was held pit Wednesday, June 2 at RCHS.' We are extremely proud of our students and teachers, and we are grateful for Headwater^? part in helping us to honor out students’ academic successes: Mrs. Jeanne Grimes, RCHS Government teacher, ever) made a presentation, after a little practice, in Spanish tai Jimena Gomez, foreign exchange student from Argentina, for outstanding progress in U.S. Government class.
